Do you have a back up plan in the event you are faced with having to scale down your chiropractic business, or leave the chiropractic industry entirely?
If not, it is prudent to come up with one. I know that the thought of leaving chiropractic is just too extreme for most chiropractors; after all, the investment in time and money is so big it makes that option unthinkable.
Planning an exit strategy is good business, though, no matter what line of work you are in. It’s all about capital preservation and asset protection. You want to be able to maintain your quality of life for you and your dependents and fund your retirement without interruption.
A chiropractic degree is super specialized. It alone will not open doors in fields such as hospital administration, public health, and other health care related jobs in the private sector. And, if you’ve been in practice for ten years or more after leaving another industry, chances are that your skill sets for that industry are out of date. These considerations, plus the bad job market overall leaves chiropractors in a vulnerable position.
One option is starting a new business, perhaps purchasing a franchise. Another less costly approach is to start an e-business, or internet based business. There are several business models for an online business besides your typical store. If you have a particular expertise or experience in something, chances are you can monetize it in some way.
SiteBuildIt is an established system that helps people create an online business. It contains all the tools one needs to start an e-business from scratch. And is has an above-par training and support community. SiteBuildIt or SBI is famous for teaching the C-> T-> P-> M method, which means build site Content first providing useful information on your niche that your market can benefit from; build Traffic to your site over time as the search engines index your content and rank them in their search results, Pre-selling your traffic by giving them even more useful, free content to build your reputation, and finally Monetizing your traffic by adding products and services to your site.
That’s the magic formula for online success. You start with service in mind, not making money; build a list of loyal subscribers who appreciate what you offer, and then only after you have earned their trust, monetize your site. Most people make the mistake of doing this backwards.
The subject of e-commerce is a huge one. SBI has done a great job of laying it all out– what works, what doesn’t and how to go about starting an online business. There are very minute details in doing this, from choosing the name of your domain to where to place your product images on your site. Let SiteBuildIt be your guide.

I hate to admit it but the thought of leaving chiropractic has crossed my mind on a number of occasions. I’m making money right now, but not as much as I would like and I think i’ve hit a plateau. I’ll check out SBI, thanks for the suggestion.
