Google Local Business Listing

Chiropractors, try to get your clinic listed in the Top 10 Google Local Business Listings.  This is especially helpful if your website isn’t listed on the first page (natural listing) for your primary keyword, which should be “(your city) chiropractors.”

Google Local Business Listings are the businesses that Google lists whenever someone does a search for a business or service.  You see, Google can detect the searcher’s computer IP address (a series of numbers that identifies its physical location).  So if someone in Austin, Texas types in “Toyota Dealerships” in Google, Google will display the Toyota dealerships in and near Austin, Texas in the Google Local Business Listings, sometimes ABOVE the natural search listings.  Plus, there will be a map to the left of the listings showing their location.

Here’s what I got when I searched for “chiropractors.” (I live in San Ramon, CA.  Note, I didn’t include my city name in the search, Google detected my location)

To do this, you’ll need to create a Google listing for your business so that people can find you on Google Maps.

If you use any of Google’s services like Gmail or AdWords, use your login info to sign into Google.  If you don’t have a username and password, sign up for a Google account.

Once you have an account, you’ll see a link called Local Business Center under Products (in the future, whenever you log into Google you can access your Local Business Center through the My Account link in the upper right hand corner).  Click that link, click Add a Business and follow the steps.

Here’s the tricky part:  you can successfully list your business, but it may not make it to the Top 10.  I believe that one of the factors that increases ranking in Google Local Business is the number of  reviews the business gets.  People can write reviews on your business through Google; there’s a Write a Review link on each business’ profile (see actual sample below).  Just get as many people as you know to write a review of your local business listing; send them the URL and ask them real nicely!

So once again, if you can get your business listed near the top on the first page in Google for your primary keyword, you can expect to get more business… for free!

I have been trying to get in the first page local business listing for a year, but so far I’m still on the second page. I asked Google what I need to do but they said it is a random listing???
